Three People Fatally Injured in Tulare County Two-Vehicle Crash near Avenue 88
TULARE COUNTY, CA (April 15, 2018) – A head-on collision near Highway 43 claimed the life of three people, early Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, they received calls from concerned motorists about a collision near Highway 43 and Avenue 88.
In their preliminary investigation, it was determined that a 2010 Volkswagen, driven by a 22-year-old Corcoran woman, was traveling north on Highway 43. For unknown reasons, the driver swerved and crossed over the double-yellow lines, colliding head-on with a southbound 2017 Chevrolet, driven by a 65-year-old Wasco man with a 55-year-old Wasco woman as his passenger.
In addition, officers noticed that both drivers did not appear to use their breaks, resulting in a full force head-on collision at approximately 55 mph. The Volkswagen halted on the east shoulder of Highway 43, while the Chevrolet’s driver was thrown out of the vehicle, as he was not secured in a seatbelt. Both vehicles received major front-end damage.
All three people suffered life-threatening injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The identities of the parties involved have not yet been released to the public at this time.
Authorities shut down the highway for several hours for clearing and investigation, but they later reopened before 6 AM. Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the deadly collision, but they don’t consider drugs or alcohol as contributing factors.
