Trooper Collides Head-On with Vehicle during Police Chase on 6th Avenue

 
TACOMA, WA (September 30, 2018) – A Washington State Patrol trooper intentionally causes a head-on collision near 5 freeway, early Sunday morning.
 
The incident started when a wrong-way driver frightened drivers on both 5 Freeway and State Rote 16 in Lakewood just before 7:00 AM. Officers arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call regarding a car theft.
 
According to WSP officials, a trooper deployed a stop stick on the highway. Both right side tires of the police cruiser were struck under the red Ford F250 pickup truck. Reports show that the impact, the driver continued to drive on the wrong side of S.R 16, when the driver approached 6th Avenue West, an officer took decisive action and rammed intentionally into the stolen vehicle.
 
The suspect fled on foot but was later found by Lakewood Police officers and now faces charges for auto theft.
 
Police officer suffered minor scratches.
