Drunk Driver Arrested after Crashing into Patrol Car on Highway 18 in Federal Way
FEDERAL WAY, WA (November 8, 2019) – A trooper and his wife had survived when a suspected drunk driver rear-ended their patrol car Friday evening.
The trooper was at the scene of a prior three-car crash along the westbound lanes of Highway18 near Weyerhauser Way around 7:00 p.m. He had his emergency lights activated as he blocked the left lane, according to authorities.
The trooper’s wife was also in the patrol car as part of an approved ride-a-long.
While the trooper was working the crash, a pickup truck approached the scene at freeway speeds and smashed into the back of the patrol car.
The crash caused extensive damage to the patrol car, but luckily no one was seriously hurt.
Authorities arrested the pickup truck driver for suspected impairment. The driver also had multiple prior DUIs, suspended license and an interlock requirement which was not installed.
Further investigation is underway.
