1 Person Dead in Sutter County Auto Accident on Highway 99 near Richland Road

SUTTER COUNTY, CA (May 21, 2024) – Monday morning, a tragic vehicle crash on Highway 99 near Richland Road killed one person.

The incident happened at around 2:00 a.m. on Highway 99 near Richland Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a northbound vehicle failed to stay in its lane, made a sharp turn, and rolled over before it came to rest. Then, the force of the crash ejected the driver of the vehicle into the roadway.

Moreover, responders pronounced the 28-year-old male driver of the vehicle, dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported a 28 and a 3-year-old passenger of the vehicle to a hospital with unknown injuries.

Furthermore, the crash closed Highway 99, between Lincoln Road and Richland Road for about two hours, but has long since reopened.

Meanwhile, officers believe that drugs played a role in the incident.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
