Los Angeles, CA (June 18, 2025) – A deadly box truck crash on Highway 101 claimed the life of 2 people early Tuesday.

According to authorities, the tragic collision happened at around 2:20 a.m. near North Tujunga Avenue.

Reports say that a box truck crash on the westbound 101 Freeway in North Hollywood

Authorities say that the crash killed two people, including a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department employee.

officials say that a black Kia compact SUV had stopped in traffic lanes for unknown reasons, and both its female driver and male passenger exited the vehicle.

As they stood outside, a box truck struck them and then slammed into the Kia. Both occupants of the Kia died at the scene.

While authorities have not released their identities, a Sheriff’s Department spokesperson confirmed one victim was an LASD employee.

A SigAlert issued at 3:35 a.m. closed all westbound lanes at Tujunga Avenue and the westbound 134 Freeway transition to the westbound 101 Freeway.

Lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m., but heavy delays persisted for several more hours.
