Tragic Traffic Crash on Pacific Highway South Kills Woman [Kent, WA]

Woman Killed in Suspected DUI Collision After U-Turn Attempt in Kent

Kent, WA (November 6, 2024) On Monday evening, a woman was pronounced dead after a fatal DUI traffic crash on Pacific Highway South.

According to Kent police, the fatal collision happened at about 11:37 p.m. on the 22400 block of Pacific Highway South.

Reports say that the woman died after a failed U-turn led to a fatal DUI crash.

Kent Patrol Officers responded to the scene following multiple 911 calls reporting a serious two-vehicle collision. Witnesses at the scene indicated that one of the drivers appeared intoxicated, and one of the vehicles had caught fire.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman unconscious with severe injuries. Puget Sound Fire and Medic 1 teams administered life-saving measures, but the woman died at the scene.

According to initial investigations, a 34-year-old Kent man was driving a Buick Regal northbound at high speed, while a 45-year-old Tacoma man, who admitted to drinking earlier, was driving a Ford Taurus southbound. Witnesses stated the Taurus attempted a U-turn into the northbound lanes, colliding with the Buick. Officers noted signs of alcohol impairment in both drivers.

The Buick driver was taken into custody, and the Taurus driver was transported to the hospital for his injuries. A judge approved a warrant for a blood draw to test for alcohol and drugs in the Taurus driver’s system. The Kent Police Traffic Unit is investigating the crash and gathering evidence to determine potential charges.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the woman’s cause of death. Kent Police urge anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn’t been interviewed to call the Kent Police Department Tip Line at 253-856-5808.
