LODI, CA (August 4, 2023) – Thursday morning, a Public Works employee died in a tragic pedestrian crash on Central Avenue and Watson Street.

The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Central Avenue and Watson Street.

According to reports, a City of Lodi Public Works Department employee was struck and killed while on the job.

Thus, responders transported the worker to the hospital in serious condition. However, the victim later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

However, the identity of the deceased remained undisclosed.

“It is with profound grief that we announce the tragic loss of one of our dedicated Public Works employees, who tragically lost their life in the line of duty this morning,” city manager Steve Schwabauer added. “We are devastated by this heartbreaking incident, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and colleagues affected by this unimaginable loss. During this difficult time, we stand united in support of the employee’s family and our entire City staff.”

Schwabauer confirmed that the city will give assistance to the worker’s family.

Lodi police added that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.

Furthermore, the authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
