SUV Driver Hospitalized in Fatal Apple Valley Police Chase Accident on Yucca Loma Road
APPLE VALLEY, CA (April 9, 2021) – Thursday afternoon, Thomas Lira, 27, died after a pursuit crash on Yucca Loma Road and Iroquois Road.
The police chase occurred at 3:50 p.m. in the area of Yucca Loma Road and Iroquois Road.
According to Sheriff’s Spokeswoman Jodi Miller, a deputy tried to stop a vehicle for code violations on Bear Valley and Iroquois. Then, when the suspect refused to yield, they prompted the deputy into a short pursuit.
Some witnesses said that the suspect’s vehicle didn’t yield at the stop sign.
Consequently, the vehicle hit an SUV at the intersection. Afterward, the suspect’s car overturned several times and fell on landed on its roof in the front yard of a nearby home.
Thus, firefighters from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District came to the area.
California Highway Patrol Helicopter H-80 went in a field nearby and flew the female driver of the SUV to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Indeed, responders took the driver to the hospital for precautionary reasons, but she didn’t show signs of injury.
The authorities declared the suspect dead at the scene and firefighters recovered his body.
Then, the authorities told motorists that there will be hard-road closures in the area. This includes Kiowa Rd/Yucca Loma Rd, Yucca Loma Rd/Hopi Rd, Iroquois Rd/Tonawanda Rd, and Yucca Loma Rd/Iroquois Rd.
