CAMPBELL, CA (January 17, 2020) – A woman was killed in a wrong-way crash early Friday morning in Campbell, the CHP reported.

The crash happened around 3:20 a.m. on Highway 17 near Hamilton Avenue exit.

According to officials, a Honda Accord was traveling south in the northbound lanes of 880 Freeway near Coleman Avenue. A few minutes later, it then collided head-on into a Toyota Avalon when 880 Freeway turns into Highway 17 near Hamilton Avenue.

As a result, the wrong-way driver died at the scene. The Santa Clara County coroner’s office identified her as Theresa Saechao, 30, of San Jose.

Meanwhile, paramedics took the Toyota driver, a 62-year-old man, to a hospital with significant injuries, including broken bones. He is expected to survive.

Officials said they smelled alcohol in the Accord, but it has not been confirmed whether that was a factor in the crash.
