1 Dead in Douglas City Auto Accident on Highway 299

DOUGLAS CITY, CA (August 11, 2020) – On Monday morning, a teenager died in a pickup crash on Highway 299, police revealed.

At about 9:00 a.m on August 10th, the 15-year-old girl drove her pickup east on Highway 299, west of Indian Creek Lodge.

The CHP revealed that the teenager drove in the westbound lane while speeding to pass several vehicles.

Meanwhile, a man driving a pickup in the westbound lane approached the Modoc County teenager as she was passing a semi-truck.

Afterward, the teenager crashed head-on with the man in the pickup. The crash ejected the teenager from her vehicle. She then hit the backside of the semi-truck’s trailer.

The vehicles stopped in the westbound lane of Highway 299 and blocked the highway traffic for more than an hour.

Furthermore, the CHP confirmed that despite the teenager wearing a seatbelt, she still suffered deadly injuries. Moreover, the other pickup driver received treatment for minor injuries.

At this time, it’s still unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Thus, the police continue to investigate the crash. They also encourage anyone with information about the incident to contact the CHP at 623-3832.
