Teen Hospitalized after Fire Truck Crash at 5th Street and Idaho Street
ELKO, NV (November 10, 2019) – A teen suffered injuries in a fire truck crash on 5th Street, Sunday afternoon.
According to Fire Chief Matt Griego, the incident happened at about 2:00 PM. City firefighters were responding to a report of a brush fire on Clearwater Court, with structures threatened. With running lights and sirens, the fire truck approached the Idaho Street intersection.
Due to unknown reasons, the truck crashed into the passenger side of an eastbound vehicle.
Firefighters rendered aid to the victims until the ambulance arrived. The teen driving the vehicle was life-flighted to a Utah hospital after being taken to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital. Updates on the victim’s current condition remain undisclosed.
Meanwhile, emergency responders rushed the fire truck’s driver and two firefighter passengers to a hospital for evaluation.
Elko County Sheriff’s office continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
