A 15-year-old Critically Injured near East Sahara Avenue and Burnham Avenue
Las Vegas, NV (March 3, 2020)– A teen suffered injuries on East Sahara avenue at about 2:55 p.m on Tuesday March 3rd after being struck an SUV.
Metropolitan Police department initially reported that they found the critically injured 15-year-old boy by East Sahara Avenue and Burnham Avenue.
While the collision is still under investigation, evidence at the scene indicates a red 2013 Jeep Wrangler first headed west on East Sahara Avenue and approached Burnham Avenue.
What proceeded next is the teen, not on a marked crosswalk, crossed East Sahara. He then ran into the path of the approaching vehicle in the intersection.
The impact knocked him down after he collided with the front of the SUV.
Lt. Jeff Stuart stated that paramedics took the teen to Sunrise Hospital Medical Center.
The victim underwent surgery at 9 p.m for numerous internal and external injuries.
On the other hand, the 51-year-old driver, also a Las Vegas resident, suffered no injuries.
He remained on the scene and certainly did not display signs of impairment.
Pedestrian accidents like the one of the teen on East Sahara Avenue are avoidable if people are aware and alert enough to follow simple safety measures while crossing intersections.
When jogging, running, or walking, one should remain beside the street or on the shoulder of the road. Furthermore, avoid the use of smartphones and other electronic devices while walking.
