2 Teens Fatally Struck by Car while Crossing Northeast 23rd Street in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, WA (January 21, 2020) – Two teens died in a pedestrian crash Tuesday morning in Vancouver.

The crash happened around 6:29 a.m. near the intersection of Northeast 23rd Street and 112th Avenue.

According to authorities, both teens were wearing dark clothing when they stepped off of a curb and into the road. The driver of a green Chevrolet pickup truck told police he did not see the teens in time to brake before impact.

As a result, the two victims suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office identified them Wednesday as 14-year-old Taylor Crepeau and 17-year-old Andrew Friedt, both of Vancouver.

Evergreen School District confirmed to KGW that the Crepeau was an eighth-grade student at Wy’east Middle School.

Friedt previously attended Mountain View High School, but had not been enrolled for this school year.

Police said the driver, a 19-year-old man, remained on scene. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

No words can mend the broken hearts and sorrow felt during this delicate moment. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the loved ones of Taylor Crepeau and Andrew Friedt.
