Tannija Smith Dies in Thurston County Car Crash
THURSTON COUNTY, WA (February 16, 2019) – Saturday night, 24-year-old Tannija J. Smith from Aberdeen was killed in a solo car accident on the 8 Freeway.
Washington State Patrol identified the driver as a 21-year-old man from Elma. He was driving a 1999 Ford F350 on the freeway at Wilson Road. He lost control for unknown reasons, causing him to hit a guardrail.
The impact caused the truck to lose control, which ended up twenty-five feet away from the initial crash. Smith was a passenger in the vehicle and died as a result of the accident.
Due to the impact of the collision, the right lane of the freeway was closed for several hours. The driver was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for further medical evaluation. Status on his condition has not been released.
There has been no further information released regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident as investigations continue.
