24-Year-Old Woman Hit and Killed by Metrolink Train at Sylmar/San Fernando Station

SYLMAR, CA (April 16, 2018) – A 24-year-old woman lost her life in a Train Collision on Frank Modugno Drive, early Monday evening.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fatal accident occurred shortly after 6 PM at the Sylmar/San Fernando station on the 12200 block of Frank Modugno Drive. The woman accidentally fell onto the train tracks, said the friends who tried to rescue her.

The commuters on the train felt a slight bump during their trip, which rarely ever happened. One of the passengers, Eddie Vargas, saw that both passengers and people waiting for the train looked scared and horrified as they were backing away from something.

A witness stated that before the woman accidentally fell, she was playing around with her friends. They were pretending to lean into the train tracks with a back-and-forth motion, which can be compared to a tug-of-war. However, the victim lost her footing, slipped, and fell.

Her boyfriend went down to help her up, while two other friends tried to assist with the retrieval. Unfortunately, the attempt was not successful as she was hit by the train in the process of the rescue.

Authorities declared the woman dead at the scene of the collision.

It was determined that the Metrolink Antelope Valley Line 285 train, which was bound for Palmdale, was the one involved in the pedestrian accident. Line 221 heading to Lancaster was delayed at Sun Valley as a result of the train station closing. Train schedules went back to normal later that day around 11 PM.

The identity of the victim remains unknown, and no other information is available at the moment.
