Man Fatally Hit by Cars Following DUI Crash on 80 Freeway in Citrus Heights

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (January 20, 2020)—A series of crashes, possibly involving DUI, on the 80 Freeway near Antelope Road Saturday claimed a man’s life.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a three-vehicle collision occurred around 2:02 a.m. on the westbound 80 Freeway.

Patrol officers subsequently received word that a person involved in the three-car accident was hit by a vehicle. It appears that a 47-year-old Sacramento man, who’d been involved in the first crash, made his way into the No. 4 lane, where a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox struck him.

Shortly after, an oncoming 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser, driven by a 53-year-old Rio Linda woman, struck him as well.

The Toyota and Chevrolet drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with police questioning. In their examination, officers determined that alcohol played a role in the incident; however, reports failed to clearly indicate on whose part.

Our hearts and sincere sympathies go out to the family and friends mourning this heartbreaking news.
