MESA, AZ (January 22, 2021) – Wednesday afternoon, authorities arrested a suspect after a pursuit crash on Loop 202 near Country Club Drive.

The incident began when Apache Junction police officers attempted to pull over a vehicle with fake license plates. This happened near Meridian Drive and Apache Trail in Apache Junction.

Unfortunately, the suspect declined to stop and continued west. Thus, the Mesa Police Department helicopter and the DPS troopers began the pursuit.

Afterward, the driver crashed into a trooper’s vehicle on Dobson Road and Loop 202 Red Mountain. Then, the driver continued back on Loop 202 eastbound.

Eventually, the chase ended when the driver rammed a second time with a DPS trooper vehicle. This second crash happened on Loop 202 near Country Club Drive.

Then, responders arrested the suspect and took him to the hospital. The officers confirmed that he suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Also, a DPS trooper suffered minor injuries during the crash.

The Mesa Police detectives noticed that the suspect was an investigative lead in an armed robbery investigation. Thus, the Mesa police took over that part of the investigation. Meanwhile, the DPS will handle the crash investigation.

At this time, the identity of the suspect hasn’t been released. Moreover, the authorities haven’t clarified his charges.

Meanwhile, the freeway was unavailable for several hours. However, it reopened at about 4:00 p.m.
