Summer Potochan Perishes, Several Injured in Solo-Car Accident on North Shaumber Road Near West Tropical Parkway
LAS VEGAS, NV (June 13, 2019) – A rollover crash on North Shaumber Road near West Tropical Parkway Sunday night left a teen dead.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the fatal incident befell around 10:17 p.m.
Authorities believe a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, occupied by six people ages from 17 to 19, was traveling on the access road. For unknown reasons, the southbound truck veered out of control and rolled over.
Police say two occupants in the bed of the truck flew out of the vehicle during the rollover crash.
Upon arrival, the Las Vegas Fire Department performed life-saving efforts to the two ejected occupants and one inside the vehicle. Paramedics wheeled all three to UMC Trauma.
However, 18-year-old Summer Potochan, whom Clark County coroner identified, succumbed to her injuries.
A total of two people suffered only minor injuries and the driver stayed at the scene for investigation. Police have ruled out impairment as a factor.
David Potochan, the father of the recent graduate, urges teens to wear their seatbelts and to never ride in the bed of a truck, despite what Nevada laws state.
