Steven Sullivan Seriously Hurt after Groveland Accident on Highway 120

GROVELAND, CA (December 10, 2018) – A man had major injuries and faces charges of drunk driving after crashing a cement-mixer truck on Friday, December 7.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s Sonora office, 48-year-old Steven Sullivan, of Soulsbyville, had just left a construction site and was driving a 2005 Peterbilt west on Highway 120, just east of Buck Meadows Road. Because he was driving under the influence, the CHP said, he allowed the truck to go over the north asphalt curb of the highway and then onto a dirt shoulder.

When he realized that he was no longer on the road, Sullivan immediately steered to the left, in the direction of a steep embankment on the south shoulder of the highway. He then abruptly steered right, which caused the mixer to roll over across the south shoulder, the eastbound lane and part of the westbound lane, the CHP stated.

He was wearing his seatbelt but still sustained major injuries and was rushed to Adventist Health in Sonora. He was arrested but released to the hospital for treatment, according to the CHP.

One-way traffic control was issued for approximately four hours and 20 minutes as the crash site was investigated and cleared from the roadway.

Do not get behind the wheel of a car if you find yourself under the influence of drugs or alcohol. By being responsible, you can keep yourself and others on the road safe. When buzzed or drunk, it is best to request an Uber, Lyft, or a taxi. If possible, reach out to a family member or a friend to come to pick you up.
