2 Hospitalized after Island County Crash on Highway 525

 
ISLAND COUNTY, WA (August 1, 2020) – Early Tuesday afternoon, authorities airlifted Stephen Cairns after an accident on Highway 525.
 
At about 12:33 p.m., the Washington State Patrol came to a report of a high-risk motor vehicle crash. The incident occurred on Highway 525, north of Mutiny Bay Road on July 28th.
 
The WSP revealed that 24-year old Stephen Cairns of Seattle rode his bike south on Highway 525 on the right shoulder of the road. However, 26-year old Brittany Wright of Oak Harbor driving struck him. According to troopers, Brittany Wright’s car entered the shoulder and hit Stephen Cairns. Afterward, the bicycle and the Honda stopped in the ditch.
 
Responders airlifted Stephen Cairns to Providence Hospital Colby Campus. Also, they took Brittany Wright to Providence Hospital Colby Campus with injuries.
 
Moreover, troopers added that Stephen Cairns wore a helmet and Wright used her seat belt during the incident.
 
At this time, it’s still unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
 
Thus, the authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
