Stephen Britton, Kaiden Britton, Clayton Tuttle Jr. and Lewis Mota Involved in Deadly Highway 162 Pedestrian Accident Near Biggar Lane

GARBERVILLE, CA (July 16, 2019) – One person died Saturday when a driver ran over a pedestrian lying on Highway 162 near Biggar Lane.

According to a news release, the incident happened around 5:20 a.m. near Hidden Oaks Casino. In addition, the release stated that a 2002 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, driven by 66-year-old Stephen Britton, ran over the pedestrian.

Prior to the crash, the Covelo man noticed something in the roadway as his truck approached the Hidden Oaks Casino. However, due to the limited road clearance and time, chances of avoiding the crash grew slim.

The Chevrolet along with the trailer full of hay it was hauling ran over the person, described as a 36-year-old male.

Unfortunately, the unidentified man died as a result of the accident.

Meanwhile, Stephen’s passengers—Kaiden Britton, 18; Clayton Tuttle Jr., 16; and Lewis Mota, 17—all from Covelo exited the vehicle to check on the victim, whom they presumed lifeless.

Because details remain unclear, the Garberville California Highway Patrol office is investigating the cause. Thus far into the investigation, they believe alcohol might have played a role in the pedestrian’s part.

We would like to take this moment to express our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
