1 Hurt in Hayward Bicycle Accident on Lewelling Boulevard
HAYWARD, CA (December 8, 2024) – Saturday morning, a startling hit-and-run crash on Lewelling Boulevard injured 1.
The incident involving a suspected intoxicated driver occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Lewelling Boulevard and Hesperian Boulevard.
A bicyclist traveling on Lewelling at Hesperian was struck by a red Hyundai Elantra, which then fled the scene.
The victim was transported to a local trauma hospital and remains in critical condition.
Hayward Police officers later located the Elantra and attempted a traffic stop. The driver briefly fled on foot but was quickly detained, according to CHP.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and felony DUI and was booked into San Rita Jail.
