1 Killed and 2 Hospitalized after San Juan Capistrano Pickup Truck Collision on Ortega Highway

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA (May 19, 2020) – Monday morning, a South Gate male resident was killed in a head-on crash on Ortega Highway.

According to police reports, two pickup trucks crashed head-on just before 6:00 a.m. near Caspers Wilderness Park.

The California Highway Patrol revealed that the 34-year-old 2016 Dodge Ram truck driver was heading west on Ortega Highway, east of Gibby Road. However, for reasons still unknown, the truck driver steered and drove across the double-yellow lines in the eastbound lanes. That vehicle then crashed with a 1999 Dodge Ram truck.

The impact of the collision left the second truck driver with fatal injuries. Meanwhile, his 30-year-old male passenger from Los Angeles was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with major injuries.

The Dodge Ram’s driver only sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Mission Hospital. Towing services were requested in the area due to the extent of damage sustained.

Furthermore, the officers also noted that the driver has been cooperative with the investigation.
