Teen Hospitalized after Hit-And-Run Crash at Sixth Street in Elko

Elko, NV (July 27, 2020) – On Saturday, a 16-year-old skateboarder sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash at Sixth Street and Oak Street.

The incident happened at around 5:10 p.m. on July 25. The police say the teen was skateboarding down a steep hill on Oak Street east of Sixth in the travel lane. When he entered a no stop or yield signs intersection, a pickup truck traveling south on Sixth Street, north of Oak, struck him.

However, the driver did not stop to help the teen and instead fled the scene southbound on Sixth.
The impact threw the teen at approximately 30 feet. Police stated he suffered serious injuries and was transported initially to NNRH and then flown to a larger care facility.

Witnesses described the vehicle as “a white Dodge Dakota extended cab with tinted windows, oversized tires, and some type of pipe sticking from the rear bed.” The truck should have damage to the front end from the collision with the victim.

“Police would like to encourage the driver of the truck to come forward and be interviewed by law enforcement,” stated a Monday afternoon release.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact Elko Dispatch at 777-7300.
