49-Year-Old Tree Trimmer Found Dead after Becoming Trapped in Palm Tree at Hacienda Heights Home

HACIENDA HEIGHTS, CA (September 6, 2018) – A tree trimmer became trapped and died inside a palm tree outside a Hacienda Heights home. The victim was later identified as 49-year-old Simon Lemus.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the incident took place at about 4:00 PM in the 15400 block of Garo Street. The victim’s teenage daughter was on the job with him when she heard him screaming for help.

She ran over to discover that Lemus had become lodged deep inside a mass of dried fronds at the base of the tree’s canopy.

Firefighters responded to the scene and used an aerial ladder to reach Lemus. At approximately 5:30 PM, Lemus was lowered to the ground and was pronounced dead minutes later. A GoFundMe page was created to assist the victim’s family with funeral expenses. Click on the link to donate and to support the campaign.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of Lemus’ death and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information has not been provided to the public at this time.
