Sidney Kelley Arrested, Teenage Girl Killed after Pursuit Ends in Crash on Robertson Boulevard (Chowchilla, CA)

Sidney Kelley Charged with DUI after Fatal Crash near Chowchilla

 
CHOWCHILLA, CA (May 10, 2019) – A 17-year-old girl died and a driver was arrested following an alleged DUI crash near Chowchilla Wednesday evening.
 
The California Highway Patrol said that they received a report of a possible DUI driver on northbound Highway 99 near Avenue 18 ½ at about 9:30 p.m. A CHP officer began following the car matching the license plates of the initial report. The officer noticed that the vehicle delaying traffic with six cars traveling behind it.
 
The car exited Robertson Boulevard and went into the opposite lane. The officer was then prompted to turn on his lights and attempted to make a traffic stop. However, the driver sped away and continued through an intersection. That is where it collided with another car heading west on Robertson Boulevard.
 
The driver carried on westbound on Robertson. She left the city limits of Chowchilla and increased her speed to 105 mph. She ultimately lost control of the car and then crashed into a tree north of Avenue 23 ½.
 
The CHP officer rushed to the car and found the 17-year-old front passenger in the back seat with no pulse. The officer pulled her out and immediately began CPR. However, when medical personnel arrived, they pronounced the girl dead at the scene. She was not wearing her seatbelt.
 
The CHP identified the driver as 20-year-old Sidney Kelley of Oakland. Paramedics took her to the hospital with unknown injuries. She has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI, felony evading causing a fatal injury, and driving unlicensed.
