Shocking Traffic Crash on Highway 99 Led to Injuries [Sutter County, CA]

Sutter County, CA(December 20, 2024) On Wednesday afternoon, injuries were reported after a multi-vehicle traffic crash on Highway 99.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the disastrous collision happened at about 3:15 p.m. along northbound State Route 99.

Reports say that a multi-vehicle collision along northbound SR99 in Sutter County temporarily shut down both directions of traffic.

Authorities say that they received an alert from an iPhone crash detection system and several 911 calls about a crash south of Encinal Road. Investigators found that a tow truck rear-ended a Subaru and sideswiped two other vehicles after failing to slow down for traffic ahead. In total, five vehicles were involved.

Witnesses reported that the 50-year-old woman driving the Subaru was unconscious and required CPR. An air ambulance was dispatched, and both directions of traffic were closed to clear a landing zone for the helicopter.

When CHP officers from Yuba-Sutter arrived, they found the woman conscious but bleeding from her head. The air ambulance was canceled, and she was transported to Adventist Health + Rideout Hospital by ground ambulance. Additionally, a 43-year-old man and a 29-year-old pregnant woman were also taken to the hospital.

The southbound lanes of SR 99 reopened after the air ambulance was canceled, while the northbound lanes remained closed for over an hour as officers cleared the scene. Some other drivers and passengers reported pain but did not require transport.

The CHP confirmed that drugs or alcohol did not contribute to the crash.
