OXNARD, CA (November 14, 2018) – On Wednesday night, a woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Rice Avenue. The deceased victim was later identified as 58-year-old Shirley Yvonne Fontaine, a resident of Ventura.

According to officials with the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported at approximately 6:48 PM, near the intersection of Camino Del Sol.

Based on a report from the Oxnard Police Department, the involved cars were a 2014 Toyota Camry and a 2011 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck. The Camry attempted to make a left turn onto Camino Del Sol and collided with the pickup, which was traveling northbound on Rice.

Shirley and the 74-year-old driver, Arnold Francis Fontaine, were rushed to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment and evaluation. Shirley later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The driver and passenger in the pickup remained on scene and cooperated with the investigators. They were not injured in the accident.

Following the collision, the surrounding area was blocked off for clean up and preliminary investigation. It is unclear whether drugs and alcohol were a factor in the incident. No further information about the crash has been released at this time, as the investigation continues.
