50-Year-Old Man Hospitalized after Semi Rolls Backwards near Highway 240

KENNEWICK, CA (November 12, 2018) – On Monday night, a man was hospitalized after a semi-truck accident on Highway 395, just south of Highway 240. The victim was later identified as 50-year-old Shawn Kathmann.

According to officials with the Washington State Patrol, the commercial vehicle and a Nissan Frontier Pickup were stopped for traffic when the semi started to roll backward. The driver of the pickup moved towards the shoulder in attempts to avoid the collision, but was unable to.

As a result of the crash, the rear of the Nissan was pinned against a nearby concrete barrier. Kathmann was taken to the Trios Southridge Hospital, but his current medical condition is unknown at his time. The driver of the 18-wheeler, 72-year-old Jose Elizondo of Pasco, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. He did not sustain any injuries in the accident.

Following the incident, traffic was detoured for a little more than an hour. No further information has been released at this time, as the investigation continues.
