34-Year-Old Cottonwood Man Fatally Injured in Collision near County Road 57
WILLOWS, CA (April 28, 2018) – A man was struck and killed in a semi-truck accident on Interstate 5, early Saturday afternoon. The victim was identified by the Glenn County Coroner’s Office as 34-year-old Shane David Keyser of Cottonwood.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place around 12:30 PM in the area of I-5 near County Road 57. A 2017 Volvo semi-truck, driven by 29-year-old Jerry Odom Jr of Cleveland, Texas, was traveling southbound on the 5 Freeway when it crossed the center divider for unknown reasons.
It crashed into a northbound 2016 Chevrolet, driven by Keyser. The Chevy was pushed to the east shoulder, into a perimeter fence, while the semi’s tractor came to a stop on its roof. Keyser was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained. Odom suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Enloe Medical Center. There is no update on his current condition at this time.
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal accident. It is unclear if there were additional vehicles involved; no other information has been disclosed by officials.
