Severo Muniz Dies in Tragic Multi-Vehicle Crash on 42nd Street [Odessa, TX]

ODESSA, TX (March 30, 2023) – Tuesday night, Severo Muniz died in a tragic multi-vehicle crash on 42nd Street.

The incident happened just before 8:00 p.m. on 42nd Street and Preston Smith Street.

The Odessa Police Department said that Griselda Cardenas driving a white 2020 Nissan Altima had stopped facing west in the left turn lane at 42nd and Preston Smith.

Meanwhile, Muniz in a green Kawasaki Ninja, Brandon Rosenthal on a gray 2023 Kawasaki Ninja, and Mario Olivas on a 2017 Honda CB1000 all headed east on 42nd.

Also, Cardenas failed to yield the right of way and veer left from 42nd onto Preston Smith Road (UTPB Property).

Afterward, Muniz and Rosenthal struck the Nissan in that intersection and Olivas laid his bike down.

When responders arrived, they transported Muniz to MCH where he later succumbed to injuries. Also, the OPD notified the next of kin.

Also, responders transported Rosenthal to MCH with serious bodily injuries.

Meanwhile, they treated and released Olivas at the scene of the crash.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
