Man In Custody after La Mirada Car Accident

LA MIRADA, CA (March 20, 2019) – A 32-year-old man is in custody after crashing a stolen vehicle through a Crunch Fitness Gym on March 19.
32-year-old Sergio Reyes escaped the scene after getting into a vehicle. However, authorities, with the aid of some witnesses, followed him and found him.
Before 1:45 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a vehicle crashing into a building in the 12800 block of Valley View Avenue.
According to Adrian Nolasco, while outside the gym, he witnessed a man crashing his vehicle into the building.
Fortunately, the car crashed into an empty reception desk. However, the surveillance video from the gym revealed that the car almost struck an employee standing there.
Detectives revealed that the vehicle was stolen from Whittier a few days before the incident.
Meanwhile, some bystanders located Reyes. They noticed him getting inside a second vehicle. They followed him through various city streets until the getaway driver struck a curb.
The vehicle collided near Alicante Road and Manzanares Road.
Furthermore, the getaway driver escaped the area. The authorities are still looking for him.
Sheriff’s Department said that the getaway vehicle, a 2019 four-door Toyota Corolla, was registered to Reyes.
Authorities arrested Reyes on suspicion of attempted murder. He’s also charged from taking a vehicle without an owner’s consent. Authorities set his bail on $1 million.
Also, investigators described Reyes as a “disgruntled former member of the fitness club.”
No person sustained any injuries in the collision.
