15-Year-Old Tarzana Teen Killed in Bike Accident on Burbank Boulevard

WOODLAND HILLS, CA (April 1, 2018) – A teen cyclist lost his life in a tragic bicycle-car collision, late Easter Sunday morning. The victim was identified as 15-year-old Sebastian Montero, a resident of Tarzana.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division, the collision occurred around 11:40 AM. Montero and a friend were on their bicycles heading east on Burbank Boulevard, through the intersection with De Soto Avenue, when a white 2018 Infiniti heading north on De Soto hit the teen.

In an additional statement, both teens on their bikes were trying to cross the intersection in an area with no crosswalks. Then, the Infiniti traveling on lane number three, also entered the intersection and struck Montero. The teen was thrown into the vehicle’s windshield head-first.

The head-on collision resulted in the teen suffering blunt force trauma. He was rushed to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 12:37 PM.

The Infiniti’s 31-year-old driver, also a Tarzana resident, sustained minor injuries from the crash. He remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. It was determined that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.

A GoFundMe page was set up to assist Montero’s family with funeral expenses.

It is still unclear what factors contributed to the collision, but they are looking at several circumstances, such as the traffic lights at the intersection and the driver’s traveling speed.

Witnesses with additional information are encouraged to contact investigators by calling Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic’s Detective Daniel Menesez at (818) 644-8028 or Officer D Martinez at (818) 644-8032.
