Sean Powers and Gilbert Benamati Dead after Sacramento Speeding Car Accident
SACRAMENTO, CA (August 29, 2019) – Two people identified as Sean Powers and Gilbert Benamati died in a speeding crash on Tuesday, August 27.
California Highway Patrol stated that guests staying at a nearby hotel heard the collision shortly after 1:30 a.m.
According to officers, the car was probably speeding in the northbound direction of the Capital City Freeway when it left the roadway.
As the vehicle approached the Watt Avenue off-ramp, they threaded the needle in between the guard rail and off-ramp sign. They didn’t strike anything until they left the roadway and hit several trees, CHP Officer Reuben Franklin said. Due to speed, they cleared a large ravine and ended on the other side.
Both the driver and passenger died at the scene. According to the Sacramento County Coroner’s office, 29-year-old Sean Denzel Powers and 30-year-old Gilbert Wayne Benamati succumbed to their injuries. It’s unclear who drove the car.
CHP is still investigating exactly what caused the incident. Investigators stated that drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
