Scott Hamers Struck and Killed by Benicia Police Officer

Benicia, CA (November 12, 2020) – On Wednesday, 48-year-old Scott Hamers died in a pedestrian accident on East 2nd Street near the off and on-ramps to Interstate 780.

The fatal accident happened when the victim was hit by a car at about 2 a.m. in the 1900 block area.

An on-duty officer was traveling down East 2nd Street when he struck Hamers with his police car.

Paramedics immediately responded to the scene. They provided life-saving efforts to Hamers. Unfortunately, he still died at the scene.

The officer, on the other hand, did not get injured in the Benicia accident.

“This is a tragic incident for all involved,” Interim Chief Mike Greene said. “Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones.”

Authorities said the officer was not responding to a call for service at the time of the accident.

The authorities immediately removed the officer from the scene of the crash.

Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol and the Solano County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the incident.

The collision area was closed to traffic for several hours during the investigation.

We at Sweet Lawyers offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Scott Hamers. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in California

While car accidents are far more common than pedestrian accidents, there is still reason to be wary when traveling on foot.

Common locations for these pedestrian incidents include shopping center entrances and street corners, but even freeways as well.

“Pedestrian accidents do not occur as much as motor vehicle accidents, but the pedestrian accidents tend to include more serious injuries,” says Tyler Toomey, a practicing attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
