1 Person Killed in Calaveras County Two-Vehicle Accident on Highway 49 near Deer Creek Road

CALAVERAS COUNTY, CA (March 28, 2023) – Sunday afternoon, authorities arrested Savannah Cooper after a fatal crash on Highway 49 near Deer Creek Road.

The incident happened at around 4:00 p.m. on Highway 49 south of Deer Creek Road.

According to reports, a vehicle lost control and drove into the dirt shoulder of the highway. Then, the vehicle continued traveling into the opposite lanes where it was struck by a car. Also, the force of the crash pushed the first vehicle to roll over.

Moreover, responders confirmed that a 13-year-old female passenger in the second vehicle died in the incident. Then, paramedics transported 4 other occupants in the second vehicle to a hospital with major injuries.

Furthermore, officers arrested the driver of the first vehicle, 18-year-old Angels Camp resident Savannah Cooper, on suspicion of DUI.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
