In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, more individuals are staying at home, whether by preference or under a state-mandated lockdown. As the public adjusts to unprecedented routines, a classic concept has risen in modern popularity: taking walks.
Many more people are spending their time outside on short strolls. The increase in foot traffic on local sidewalks, intersections, and roads normally does not sound alarming.
However, more and more pedestrians are facing devastating consequences from this. Distracted and speeding drivers are bigger risks to individuals, who are not in a vehicle as a buffer. Taking walks is becoming increasingly dangerous, leading to a surge of pedestrian accident incidents.
