Late Evening Rollover Crash on 87 Freeway in San Jose Kills 1 and Leaves Another in Critical Condition

 
SAN JOSE, CA (January 5, 2019) – A man was killed and a woman was critically injured following a rollover crash late Saturday evening in San Jose.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:10 p.m. on northbound 87 Freeway at Taylor Street off-ramp.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a dark-colored SUV carrying four or five people was heading northbound on Guadalupe Freeway when the driver encountered backed-up traffic at the Taylor Street exit. The driver swerved to avoid hitting the stopped traffic, but veered into a sound wall at the interchange. The SUV then overturned and landed on its side.
 
A male passenger in his 30s was killed in the crash. His identity has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
 
Another passenger, a woman in her 30s, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
 
All occupants in the SUV were reportedly wearing their seat belts.
 
All freeway lanes were blocked while evidence from the scene was collected and photographed.
 
The incident remains under investigation.
