28-Year-Old Man Fatally Injured in Three-Vehicle Collision on Gilman Springs Road Overpass
SAN JACINTO, CA (April 22, 2018) – A head-on collision on Sanderson Avenue claimed the life of a 28-year-old San Jacinto man and injured a Pasadena man. The name of the deceased was not released to the public, while the injured was identified as 39-year-old Thomas Jackson III.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened at the area just south of Gilman Springs Road overpass and north of Ramona Expressway.
CHP officials received 911 calls from concerned motorists about a gold Ford Focus that was possibly driving under the influence or might be suffering from a medical condition as it was veering across traffic lanes. The drivers following the vehicle were seen with their emergency flashers on, which can be interpreted as a warning for incoming drivers about the possible danger.
In the initial investigation, authorities determined that the Ford Focus, driven by a 28-year-old San Jacinto man, was heading south on Sanderson Avenue. At the same time, 50-year-old Juan Conde of Hemet was heading northbound on Sanderson in his silver BMW 328i. Jackson was driving a grey Toyota Corolla, also headed north, when the Ford swerved and crossed over the double-yellow lines. The San Jacinto man side-swiped the left side of the BMW, causing the Ford to lose control and collide head-on with the oncoming Corolla.
CHP Officials received calls 15 minutes after the head-on collision, and paramedics arrived at the scene at 9:56 PM. They found Jackson with major injuries and sent him to a nearby hospital for treatment. Conde was reportedly uninjured. The unnamed San Jacinto man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The family and friends of the deceased claimed that the man was driving home from work because he was feeling sick. It is now thought that he might have fallen asleep or suffered from an unmentioned medical condition before the accident happened. Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as possible factors in the crash after the family’s statement, but they are still awaiting toxicology reports to confirm the claims.
