Rudolf Hohstadt, Regina Hohstadt Killed, David Croswell Detained Following DUI Hit-and-Run Collision at Sandy Swimming Hole Park Along North Shepherd Road

 
WASHOUGAL, WA (June 28, 2019) – A German couple died Tuesday evening in a hit-and-run DUI crash at Sandy Swimming Hole Park along North Shepherd Road.
 
Rudolf Hohstadt, 61, and Regina Hohstadt, 62—both German nationals visiting family in the area—were identified as the victims in the hit-and-run.
 
According to reports, police booked 71-year-old David E. Croswell on suspicion of two counts of vehicular homicide while driving under the influence. In addition, he faces two counts of hit-and-run.
 
The incident dates back on Tuesday around 5 p.m. A red Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Croswell, drove through a chain-link fence at Sandy Swimming Hole Park. The Jeep continued toward the water and struck a pair lying on the beach, whom reports identified as the Hohstadt couple.
 
Subsequently, the Jeep left the park on the east side and drove up a berm and hit a parked sign.
 
Witnesses informed officers that the Jeep failed to slow down and last saw it heading eastbound on Shepherd Road.
 
Following the accident, paramedics quickly transported the Hohstadts to a hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
 
Later that evening, officers arrested Croswell when his son-in-law, who heard news of the report, contacted 911 after verifying the damage on the Jeep, which sustained damage and was missing a front grille.
 
Around 8 p.m. police arrived at Croswell’s home, where Croswell admitted to driving the Jeep at the swimming hole park.
 
Officers booked him into the Clark County Jail shortly after.
