Roy Gillespie Killed in Head-On Crash on Geer Road [Hughson, CA]

Sonora Man Roy Gillespie Dead in Hughson Wrong-Way Accident, Vidal Calderon Involved

 
Hughson, CA (June 25, 2021) – On Wednesday, 33-year-old Roy Gillespie of Sonora died, while 61-year-old Vidal Calderon of Delhi was injured in a head-on crash on Geer Road.
 
The fatal Hughson accident happened at about 2:27 p.m. north of Hatch Road.
 
Officers said Calderon was southbound on Geer Road in his Chevy pickup approaching Hatch Road when he swerved to the right into a raised asphalt curb parallel to the road.
 
Then, Calderon’s vehicle drifted sharply to the left and entered the northbound lane, directly towards a Nissan driver, Roy Gillespie.
 
As a result, the Nissan was sent off the east edge of the road and rested in a southwest direction. On the other hand, Calderon’s pickup rested on its passenger side and straddled on the east edge of the roadway facing north.
 
The authorities pronounced the Sonora man dead at the scene.
 
Rescuers rushed Calderon to Doctors Medical Center with major injuries.
 
Meanwhile, officers said that drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the wrong-way accident. They also said that both drivers were wearing their seat belts during the accident.
