Roselyn Sharma and Shalvinesh Sharma Die in Pioneer Bridge Crash on Highway 50 With Semi-Truck

SACRAMENTO, CA (April 16, 2019) – Two people are confirmed dead following a March 26 crash between a semi-truck and a tow truck at the Pioneer Bridge on Highway 50.

According to news reports, the 8:30 p.m. crash happened approximately three weeks ago when Roselyn Sharma and her husband, Shalvinesh Sharma, collided with a semi-truck. The impact sent the tow truck and couple over the Pioneer Bridge, 150 feet down and into the Sacramento River.

Crews recovered Shalvinesh’s body near Garcia Bend Park Thursday. However, officials still had not recovered Roselyn, whom families presumed dead.

According to news reports, officials with Sacramento’s all-volunteer Drowning Accident Rescue Team combed the waters for the couple who owned Justin’s Towing.

It appears extreme conditions such as fast-moving currents and low visibility and light forced crews to turn the rescue into a recovery mission. In addition, they waited on money from the family’s insurance company.

Coming Sunday, a crane and a squad of divers lifted the tow truck from the river 9:30 a.m. Sunday to find Roselyn’s body inside.

Now, the family can hold a proper memorial for the pair.

As far as the accident, it is not clear where the fault lies but an investigation is underway.

Our deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of Roselyn Sharma and Shalvinesh Sharma.
