Pedestrian Rosa Orellana ID’d as Fatality on Merle Haggard Drive Bakersfield
Bakersfield, CA (May 15, 2020)– On Friday afternoon, Rosa Orellana died after being hit by an Oildale truck in Merle Haggard Drive near McCray Street.
CHP received crash reports around 5:30 p.m. on May 15. Dispatched officers arrived and located the truck and the pedestrian down on the scene.
Reportedly, Ms. Orellano collected something in the median of the road and was struck on her way back to the sidewalk. She died on the spot.
Further investigation revealed that the woman is in her mid-90s and lived in the area, and often collects cans and bottles along the roadway.
Meanwhile, the truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police investigations. The identities of both involved remain undisclosed at this time.
Furthermore, CHP confirmed the driver appeared to be driving the appropriate speed. He showed no signs of impairment.
