47-Year-Old Yreka Man Fatally Struck by Stolen Truck near Humbug OHV Recreation Area
YREKA, CA (September 12, 2018) – A man was killed Wednesday afternoon following a dirt bike accident near Humbug OHV Recreation Area. The victim was later identified as 47-year-old Ronald Kistle, a resident of Yreka.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place shortly before 1:00 PM. A Suzuki dirt bike, driven by Kistle, was heading uphill on Humbug Creek Road. As he rounded a curve, his bike crashed into a 1969 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Authorities believe that Kistle remained responsive after receiving injuries from the collision. However, he was not able to immediately request for assistance, as cell phone tower coverage is not available in the area. The pickup driver, identified as 44-year-old Amber Roberts, allegedly left the scene to call for help.
At about 2:30 PM, the incident was finally reported to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, who immediately responded to the scene. Unfortunately, Kistle had already succumbed to his injuries upon their arrival. Meanwhile, Roberts was taken into custody for driving a stolen vehicle along with being the subject of an outstanding warrant.
