Romulo Soriano Jr. Dead, 2 Men Hospitalized in Rear-End Bus Crash in San Jose

San Jose, CA (July 6, 2020)– On Friday afternoon, a rear-end crash on West San Carlos Street involving a VTA bus left Romulo Soriano Jr. dead and two injured.

Moreover, on July 3, San Jose Police Department officers arrived at the scene on West San Carlos Street at about 5:16 p.m.

Officials said a car rear-ended a VTA bus as it pulled up to a bus stop near South Buena Vista Avenue.

SJPD spokesperson Officer Gina Tepoorten said medics pronounced the 40-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi, Mr. Soriano Jr., dead at the scene.

Furthermore, the 30-year-old male passenger of the Mitsubishi sustained life-threatening injuries.

Responders also hospitalized a third occupant, a 36-year-old male, who sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the bus driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, said Ken Blackstone, a VTA spokesperson. The other two passengers of the VTA bus did not sustain injuries and did not request hospitalization.

Moreover, Blackstone said the bus seemed to have minor damage due to the collision.

Pending Investigation of Fatal Collision

West San Carlos Street was closed from Meridian Avenue to South Bascom Avenue. Officers are expected to have it reopen by 9 p.m.
