1 Killed and 1 Injured in SUV Collision near Dry Creek Road
HEALDSBURG, CA (June 6, 2018) – A man was killed early Wednesday morning after an SUV crashed into a tractor-trailer near Dry Creek Road. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office identified him as 36-year-old Roger Lewis Evans of Ukiah.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at 2:15 AM near a construction zone on Highway 101. A 2001 Chevy Tahoe, driven by Evans, failed to observe the traffic slowing down and hit a tractor-trailer, driven by 58-year-old Luis Armando Marroquin of Richmond.
Evans and his passenger, an unidentified woman, were transported to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. There are currently no updates or details regarding the passenger’s medical condition. Marroquin was reportedly unharmed in the collision.
The collision, along with the ongoing construction, temporarily closed the northbound lanes. They were later reopened at 5:26 AM, as per the CHP.
Investigators stated that the Tahoe was traveling between 50 to 65 mph before colliding with the tractor-trailer; however, speed was not confirmed to be a contributing factor in the incident. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to cooperate by calling the CHP at (707) 588-1400.
We extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Roger Lewis Evans. May he rest in peace.
