22-Year-Old Man Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver near Elm Avenue
LANCASTER, CA (August 4, 2018) – A man was killed early Saturday morning after he was hit by a vehicle on West Lancaster Boulevard. The deceased victim was later identified as 22-year-old Rodney Richard.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the incident took place at around 2:00 AM, on W Lancaster near Elm Avenue. Richard was talking to the occupants of a parked black sedan when he was struck by a speeding pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup stopped before fleeing the scene to the Sierra Highway. Authorities believe that the suspect vehicle was traveling in excess of the 15 mph speed limit when it hit the victim. Witnesses claimed that the driver of the black sedan also left the scene.
Richard sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff. Investigators described the vehicle as a “full-size” white truck, believed to be a Chevrolet or Dodge. There is currently no description of the hit-and-run driver. Anyone witnesses with additional information regarding the hit-and-run accident and/or the whereabouts of the occupants inside the black sedan, are encouraged to call the Lancaster Sheriff’s station at (661) 948-8466.
