Rochelle Weston Killed,1 Passenger Injured, Daniel Melgarejo Arrested in Hit-And-Run Crash on Highway 198

 
Huron, CA (August 3, 2020) – On Friday, a 60-year-old Rochelle Weston of Vallejo died, and a 63-year-old passenger sustained major injuries in a hit-and-run crash with Daniel Melgarejo on Highway 198.
 
The fatal accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. in western Fresno County.
 
CHP Officer Hugo Solorio said a silver Acura was moving east on Highway 198, west of Lassen Avenue, at a fast speed.
 
Then, the Acura overtook a Toyota Camry. Its driver was unable to get away from the possible collision. The Acura pushed the Camry to the left side of the road, where it flipped.
 
Police pronounced Weston dead at the scene. She was ejected from the car and died, Solorio said.
 
The Acura drifted to the right side of the highway and crashed into a tree in an orchard.
 
Subsequently, the driver fled the scene, but authorities later arrested him in Huron. Police identified him as 28-year-old Daniel Melgarejo of Coalinga. CHP said he sustained moderate injuries from the crash.
 
Meanwhile, CHP said officers consider alcohol and or drugs were a factor in the crash.
