Fatality Reported in San Jose Chain-Reaction Crash on Interstate 80 and 4th Street

SAN JOSE, CA (August 3, 2021) – Early Sunday, Robert Serrano died in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 and 4th Street.

According to the initial investigation, a 1972 Chevy Impala drove onto the freeway from the on-ramp. Afterward, a Toyota Prius hit the Chevy Impala. After the crash, both vehicles stopped in the far left lane. Then, both drivers went out of their vehicles.

Eventually, a speeding 2008 BMW 328i sedan struck the two stopped cars. The preceding crash led to a chain reaction. Then, the Impala’s driver was struck and knocked off the elevated freeway.

The impact threw off 40-year-old Robert Serrano of San Jose in a parking lot below and he died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old BMW driver from Sunnyvale sustained minor injuries. His 24-year-old San Jose male passenger also suffered minor injuries.

Responders took both of them to the Regional Medical Center for complaints of pain.

The authorities believed that alcohol played a role in the crash. Also, they haven’t indicated whether anyone had been cited or arrested as of Sunday morning.
