Robert Rascon Dies in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on 15 Freeway Near Mile Marker 63
LAS VEGAS, NV (July 8, 2019) – A man died in Saturday’s hit-and-run pedestrian crash on the 15 Freeway near Mile Marker 63.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the incident befell around 4:30 a.m., near Apex. First responders arrived shortly after.
Robert Rascon suffered grave injuries when a Mercedes Sprinter van struck him in the far left lane. Subsequently, a light-colored Ford F-150 slammed into the 87-year-old man, and fled the scene shortly after. Unfortunately, the North Las Vegas man died in the accident.
According to reports, investigators ruled out impairment as a possible factor in the accident; however, the driver of the Ford remains at large.
Per family members of Rascon, they reported him missing Friday afternoon. Reports say Rascon took his wife’s gray 2008 Chrysler Aspen SUV without proper medication, money or a cellphone while she was asleep. Further reports noted that Rascon suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and high blood pressure.
At this time, authorities are seeking the whereabouts of the Ford driver and asking witnesses to call the NHP dispatch at (702) 486-4100.
